Chicken Coop

With winter right around the corner, we are wrapping up some particulars on the farm. One of which is a proper chicken coop. In keeping with our desire to lesson our global footprint, we did not want to purchase all new materials for construction of the coop.

Serendipity for us, our neighbors were cleaning house and just wanted this old camp trailer off the property. It was easy to imagine how the trailer could be converted into our chicken coop.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. The three RRRs. We teach our children the most important of the three is to Reduce. By giving new life to a trailer that would otherwise be sitting in a landfill, we are reducing in a big way.

The chicken coop is our big fall project and I am excited to see it transform. First however, we are welcoming two young goats to the farm and we have a bit of fence mending to do.

Happenings Happening

I want to share all the great happenings happening here at "Sugar Mountain", (which is a story in itself) but really, I don't feel the energy to do so. All of my energy is flowing straight to this little babe of mine...and of course, my other three babes as well .... the oldest will be 14 next week - ack!

I know I may be letting some things slide, but the most important, most beautiful, most fulfilling task at hand is definitely getting done -and I say everything else can wait.

How about some photos instead of more words? Right then.

The County Fair...

Roxie is half an inch too short to ride the bigger rides, and too old for the younger rides. What's a girl to do? We had fun anyhow, but just like last year (and the years before that) I say we're not going again next year. Bets as to if that one sticks?

Holy Smokes!

Holy Smokes! Time sure does fly when you're taking it easy...
One month old Finn Eric says "Hi" today.

Summer is coming to a close mega fast now...with the 8th grader starting school tomorrow! I have another week with the younger two, but our lazy mornings have officially come to a close. My way of saying goodbye to the summer vacation? I loaded 'em up and headed down to the river for the afternoon.


I have been thinking quite a bit about this little blog, "Color Your World Pink" and I have decided it needs some re-vamping. After-all, my world is not just pink anymore. Lots on my mind, but time and energy is low.....trying to be patient with myself in this area. At this point, the most important activity for me is snuggling my little snugglebug. How very precious this time is.

All A' Smitten!

August 2nd at 9:59pm, after an extremely short labor, our handsome Mr. Finn Eric arrived! Weighing in at 7lbs 13oz and 20 1/2in long, this little line-backer has us all a'smitten. We are home now, enjoying this precious little boy who has changed our lives forever. We feel so very blessed.

That's what we're in now, a waiting pattern. Our little boy is due for arrival anytime! I am so excited to meet this new little boy who will change our lives forever.

A Stroll About the Farm...

I am impressed with myself for keeping up with the 365 photo project...and in an effort to post something other than baby belly or kids, I took a stroll about the farm the other day and landed myself in the "Volkswagen Graveyard". I grew up daughter of a VW mechanic...those skills trickled down to my brother. We are storing these old beauties for him.

I only post one photo for the day over at 365, but wanted to share the rest of my photos from the "Graveyard".

Eggs!

The ladies are starting to give us eggs! SO very exciting...3 eggs so far. I was standing right next to the hen as she laid the first egg, just in the middle of their yard. She let out this funky squawk and jumped a little. All the hens and "Red Rex" (the rooster) started pecking at it and cocking their heads like, "What the heck just happened?!" Thankfully, they have started doing their business in the nesting boxes.

Enjoying the 365Project

I have really been enjoying the 365 Photo Project. The other night I went for a walk around the farm in search of the "photo of the day". It was such a beautiful sunset that evening, no wind and not too hot. Perfect. I had a hard time choosing between these photos...

Just a Glimpse...

Just a little glimpse of our new family room. Still working on trim and then carpet...but the big part of the job -the part we have been working on for what seems f-o-r-e-v-e-r (you know -walls, electrical, doors, taping, texturing, paint) is complete! AND -much to my relief -my main contribution is done. Now moving forward onto other projects to get ready for my little Finn...happiness and relief!

Perhaps I should mention that this remodel was not just the family room...it also included an entry room with closet and the girls room. I'll be dusting up remodel dust for a while I bet...
